Subject: Two RS423 questions

Hello everybody,

In my further attempts to take over this mailing list :), I have
two RS423-related questions.

1. You can make the Beeb send its output to the RS423 by selecting
an RS423 printer (*FX5,2) and then switching on the printer
(VDU2). This works well, apart from one problem: the Beeb
doesn't seem to "listen" to its RTS/CTS lines. In other words:
if the device connected to the RS423 temporarily doesn't
accept input from the Beeb, the Beeb continues sending.

Does anybody why this occurs and (more importantly) how it
   can be overcome?

2. Another way to make the Beeb send its output to the RS423 is
by having it send its output directly to the RS423 (*FX3,3).
If you do this, the above problem doesn't occur, but another
problem occurs: the Beeb switches off RS423 output (i.e.
does something similar to *FX3,0) during certain Oscli commands.
For example, if you type *FX3,3 and then *CAT, the only thing
that gets sent to the RS423 is a '&' and RS423 output is switched
   off.

Does anybody now how this can be prevented?

I'm sorry if anybody feels I'm bothering them too much lately with
my questions. Lemme just say I'll try to make a very good BBC-PC
serial transfer program (it works already, but I'm optimizing it)
and I'll give you guys a special mention.

Thanx in advance,
Mark.
