Subject: Newbie question

Hi,

I have recently purchased a BBC Model B with disk drive and although I have
worked with these machines it was about 12 years ago.

The machine appears to have OS Version 1.2, View version A3.0 and DFS 1.2.

I was trying to find out what version of Basic was installed (still have
been unable to figure this out) and opened the machine up to have a look at
the ROM's. On the right hand side where the ROM's reside a small board has
been installed which is some form of expansion board. However, on this
board is a small encapsulated device (ROM footprint size) which has wires
running off to an externally mounted toggle switch. There are also a pair
of wires running off to the main board via test type connectors (i.e. non
soldered) These wires run to a pin on an 74LS00 and to a pin on the ADC
chip.

Can anyone help enlighten me to the function of the board and this device?

Thanks in advance,

Martin Main
