I think he means the *CONFIGURE command, which if it's:
*configure data 5
*configure baud 7

It's 9600 baud, 8n1, AFAICR.

Is anything coming up on the screen at all? Try issuing *FX 2,1 on machine
A, and *FX3,1 on machine B. Then type on
machine B and see if anything comes up on machine A. If it does, it's communicating
something. If not, it's your lead or
your serial ports.

To be honest, it could be any of the following: the lead, the connectors,
the serial port, the program, the config, etc.
