Don't laugh.  The brother of one of my school friends (no names, he may
be reading this) once got a CD stuck in his 5 1/4" drive!!!  Don't ask.

Thanks everyone for your advice.  It's all working a treat now.  I've
even used the built in power supply (after doing some envelope
calculations and power consumtion tests) of the 3.5" drive to power the
5.25" one as well (it used to take power from the BBC).  Both drives are
now screwed together and make a useful addition to my growing hardware
list.
