There were loads of different packages, EBBS, FBBS, HBBS, NBBS, OBBS (I'm
not joking here), ACMB/XFS, CARBBS, JOELBBS (ha) and on and on ...
CCl4 started off back in 1986 on FBBS. EBBS was written by James Eckhardt
with modifications by whoever - as with all these systems they were usually
*highly* customised by the sysops as they dabbled with the code.
There's a fair bit of CCl4 "history" on CCl4 ( http://fish.ccl4.org/java/ )
itself, maybe some of it should be put on http://www.ccl4.org/viewdata/ as
well.
