Subject: re BBC's and speech system

Hi All

>From what I can remember the speech system was based on a system of
'phonemes' (individual sounds) which were combined to from words. The
classis speech synth chip was a SP0256, and a couple of others. I have a
speech chip plugged into my 1Mhz bus at the moment and it works but the
sound quality is a bit robot like..... i seem to remember that the
phonemes were based on a famouse UK newsreader at the time, I forget which
one.
The sppech synth chips are simple to use if you are reasonably au-fait
with electronics, but are extremely rare... if anyone knows of a supply
please drop me a line... I will buy then all!!!!

other the other hand for a BBC the was a system called !SPEECH which
produced speech from software alone, and I know there are a couple of roms
floating around......

Hope this helped.
