I found some info recently (either on TBL or the BBC
doc project I think) about connecting an IDE drive to
an 8 bit micro (z80 based).  The circuit doesn't look
too complicated.  The most difficult bit (from my
point of view) would be the software.  
I'm currently looking at connecting a ZIP drive to the
beeb via the user and printer ports, but this is on
hold for a while as I've lent out my ZIP drive!
