Yes.  Any bog-standard, straight-from-the-shop 3.5" disk drive will work. 
All my Compacts, Masters and BBCs have off-the-shelf 3.5" drives on them.
 
A note of caution, though.  Some BBCs may need DFS 1.21 to correct disk
timing problems with 3.5" drives.  A patch to create DFS 1.21 from DFS
1.20 is available on my website somewhere ;) or I can do it for you
through the post.
 
It's on 8BS disk 64, so you could try the 8bs site, http://surf.to/8bs
