at the BASIC prompt, type TIME$="Tue,28 Nov 2000.08:05:00"
                                    ^
note there must be no space after the comma and the string must be 24
characters long.  To check it's entered OK, type *TIME or PRINT TIME$.

loss of date/time implies that the battery in the machine is dead.  You
may well want to replace it in case it leaks and causes damage.
