You mean the Adaptor is powered by mains?  I wouldn't
imagine so... nope I think you mean the auxillary PSU
and if it's a different shape my guess would be that
either the adaptor is meant for older BBC's or someone
fitted the wrong lead.  Someone should help you locate
some kind of auxillary adaptor where you can switch...
