You have it on loan... yes the NEC machine is the same (the site below
confirms it).
I have just got the T-102 which even has a modem so you can connect to
compuserve and send/receive email (or could) and connect to BBS (which I
can't see why it still cant to). It uses the RS232 interface (which I think
is also on the BEEB) and I need a modem plug for it which is 'phone plug'
to phone line wall socket and into phone socket (the latter of which I
cannot see the use for). The diagrams for making such a plug are at:

I also think something which may be of relevance to the BEEB is an RS 232C
to Serial lead, which is explained at: www.the-dock.com/club100.html too.
