Yes i have had success with my master and an old 1.44 meg floppy from a
tulip server. Certainly formats the disk ok just no success with serial
links from my pc to get some software across.

I think the key is having the adfs rom from a master if you have this i
can't see why it wouldn't work in a model B as well

there are people out there who will burn you a copy if you send them the rom
image and pay for the chip.

the old beeb powered cummana drive power leads are ideal for this just pick
up a 5 1/4\hard disk power to 3.5 inch floppy power converter from your
local maplins and plug the whole lot in with an old style 4 head PC floppy
cable.

put tape over the hole in a 1.44meg disk to turn it into a 720 kb disk and
away you go

In theory i don't see why you couldn't run one of each ie a 5.25 and a 3.5
inch disk at the same time

I have successfully connected up two 3.5" DD drives out of an old PC to
my BBC Master, and they work fine without changing any settings. It may
not be this simple with a B, from what I read in this document:
http://www.nvg.ntnu.no/bbc/doc/DiskDriveAndDFSGuide.zip
but it is certainly do-able. I don't know about HD drives - you may need
to modify them if you want to use HD disks (i.e. short out the sensing
switch that detects the hole in the HD disk).
