There's a device to enable a BBC to receive MIDI data, it's called a MIDI
interface. There's a circuit diagram on JGH disk 7, see www.8bs.com as I
haven't got round to uploading it to my site yet.
 
You then need some software to pass that received data to the on-board
sound system.  I wrote a primative sound tracker system which does that,
and as soon as I get FTP access again I'll upload it to my site.
 
The *MIDIon command does the opposite - sends data destined for the
on-board sound system to the MIDI output instead.  See JGH-007.  If you
went to the Wakefield Show you could have seen it in operation.
