As indeed you said before, Phil. Sorry, bit of a slip-of-the-brain
there. 

I had sort of envisaged a Linux box at the other end of the link, so
SLIP shouldn't be a problem. 

I'm not implying I've the time (nor skills) required to take this task
on, however! The only Assembler I ever did was Z80 on the Speccy, and
even then I was crap, and have now forgotten it all by now (probably).
