Subject: Need to buy a cassette deck

A friend of mine is trying to find a suitable cassette recorder for use with
a BBC Model B. Ideally it needs a mono earphone out socket, line-level
aux-in socket, and a motor control.

I am told that the Sony one that is sold in the Maplins and Argos catalogues
are not suitable as they do not have an aux-in socket, only a microphone
socket which expects a much lower-powered input and so distorts everything.
Can anyone confirm whether this is true?

I have also seen the one on the Radio Shack website, but this would mean an
expensive import from the USA. I also know I could use a hifi seperate tape
deck, but would prefer a portable. Second-hand need not necessarily be ruled
out. I have looked on www.8bs.com for second hand ones but there are not any
at the moment.

Does anyone know of any suitable new machines for sale in this country, or
of any good places to buy secondhand ones in the Plymouth/West Devon area of
the UK?

Thanks in advance.
