No, the notch is definately at the top, I've just looked at the back of
the computer and pulled the serial lead out to check:
 
         notch
           v
          ***
 lug --> ***** <-- lug
          ***
           ^
        no notch
 
If you have access to it, check page 239 of the New Advanced User Guide or
page 499 of the BBC User Guide... or look at the back of a computer.
