Subject: Re: Slighty OT: Archimedes A3020 Hard-disk

I found this out the hard way many years ago when I upgraded the HD
in my A5000 (RO 3.1), by placing a 540Mb drive in addition to the old
120Mb drive (yes - I'd upgraded before). I tried to format to 540Mb
and the format software didn't complain, but when it went passed the
512Mb limit it overwrote the data from the first drive - ahhhrrrggg,
even though it only overwrote 28Mb, I couldn't see any data on this drive.

Luckly between myself and a very clever friend, we worked out the format
of the original drive, where the file tables were - discovered that there
was a backup on the drive which was unaffected, hand-edited a load of hex
in the drive, and stood there in amazement as it actually worked - I
could see the data (that haddn't actually been blowen away with the
overwrite), and managed to copy most of my files from the old to the new
drive.
