Yes, it's feasible.  Some of the analogue circuitry round the line
interface is quite touchy, though.  Be sure to use 1% tolerance
resistors where these are called for: 5% parts will most likely not
work.

Also, on early boards (issue 4 and older from what I remember) there was
provision for onboard termination and clock generation.  This could lead
to some surprises if you inadvertently populate and enable these parts.
