A couple of years ago I wrote to the list with a similar message of
success. I have used my Dual Processor Gigabyte board quite happily with
a 5.25" drive to write BBC discs for both 8271 & 1770. I found if the
disks had not been previously formatted on the BBC there is a slightly
better chance of reading the disks with the Watford DFS opposed to the
Acorn DFS, which I put down to the skew factor. Apart from that, no
problems. Always used FDC (the program that is!) to read/write the
disks.

Gigabyte GA-6BXDS Dual Processor Board (Pentium II)
No mention in the tech spec regarding the floppy controller.

I expect that many of the Gigabyte boards of the same generation using
the BX chipset will probably give a similar result. Should be knocking
about quite cheap too. Not tried my current P4 board yet....
