Some on this list (me for one) started out in computing on the Beeb and
still hold it in some affection.
Many on the list know the insides of a Beeb like the back of their hands and
I am sure there are many who have been able to resurrect their machines due
to the knowledge and kindness of those people. Others, like me, have a
genuine interest in the Beeb and pick up many little snippets of information
but are out of their depth when things get too technical (me for one).
When the Beeb rolls over and dies, you come to the aid and can suggest how
to bring the thing back to life again and even directing us to where the
parts can be obtained or offering to provide them often free) and I thank
all those people.
However, all this argument over GoMMC is ruining this wonderful list. It may
be a very useful thing but it probably entails a lot more than the average
Beeb lover could even attempt. I certainly am not interested in one as, to
me, it spoils some of the beauty of the Beeb - rather like putting a jet
engine on a Sopwith Camel. Please remember that there are some of us out
here who just love the Beeb and want to keep it running and writing programs
for it as well as those professionals out there.
Please let it drop now. It has nothing to do with the original machine and
probably would be best served on another list or via personal e-mails
between those concerned. Others of us are just not interested in the
disagreements and clashes of personality of those involved, honest.
Colin Hill.
