Watford Electronics are still going and you can occasionally see them supplying
electronic prizes
for newspaper competitions. I did e-mail them probably about a year ago
but they wrote back
(actually it was one of the Jessas who own the company so I was very privileged!!)
to say they
didn't have any Beeb stock any more and they hadn't sold anything Beeb related
for about 10 years!

Best wishes,

Ian

Hi,

If anybody manages to locate a ZIF socket of the Watford Electronics type
with the hole that in the board that permits it to be secured - do let me
know. Aren't they still in business? I wonder if they have any new old
stock?

Aaron

Thanks for that, Ian.

The squiggles and crashes sound like classic 'loose rom' symptoms.
Probably an iffy electrical connection or two somewhere in the chain.
The idea seems OK in principle - a bit like those four-way rom carts
that Watford etc did for the Master's cartridge slots where you could
switch two roms in at a time. I have one of those carts, but
unfortunately I don't have cartridge slots anymore. Which brings me to
your question about the 'Stealth Master'. This is a bit of a fun project
I put together from a pile of odd case halves and orphaned components.
It consists of a Master motherboard, PSU and keyboard fitted into a Beeb
case. Looks just like a BBC B but performs like a Master - hence the
'stealth' bit. The cartridge slots are inaccessible, of course, as I
didn't want to spoil the classic look of the B case - hence my interest
in your rom box.

-Neil.
