Well you don't necessarily need all resolutions of an image. Sometimes
(particularly with PCB shots) the medium-res version is useless anyway.
Sometimes there's no advantage in having the high-res version online; it
just wastes diskspace and bandwith. 

I think what I'm aiming for here is that the 'view' part when a
thumbnail is clicked on opens the image in the default res, but there'll
also be a link to any other resolutions available.

Unfortunately that means rewriting my config handling routines, so I
think I'll get version 1 out the door first then do that :)

I'm thinking that I also want to make it possible for the thumbnail to
be an interesting part of the larger image if needed, rather than it
always being a scaled-down copy of the larger image. I'm seen a few
galleries do that to good effect, but far as I'm aware they've all been
hand-crafted...
