I wonder if you can remember how you did it.  I have mine
connected up to the standard Acorn Winchester Disc host
adapter board but I get no response; ADFS just goes straight
to floppy.

Yeh I'm fairly sure I got one working years ago with one of the home
built SASI cards; (I'm not sure if it is the SQ555 model - it is
5.25" 44MB).
