Subject: Re: FW: Making a 3.5" Beeb floppy drive (needs change of Subject and venue)

If using 8271 disk controller you will need a patched DFS 1.2 rom, using th
e
CusDNFS fix. Without this the beeb will produce a disk fault when attemptin
g
to seek; will be able to read catalog, but not load files.

Make sure you are using an old double density floppy disk (720k dos), not a
modern high density format (1.4mb dos). The floppy drive looks for a notch
on the case, and switches to double density mode.

The drive can be changed from drive 1 to drive 0 using any of the following
methods:
1) Drive jumper, using straight cable, most modern drives do not have drive
select jumpers.
2) Drive solder pad, using straight cable, usually available if there is no
drive jumper.
3) Cable twist swapping pins 10 & 12, this twist is different to the twist
normally found on pc floppy cables. There is a thread on the stairwaytohell
forum with a photo of the twist required.

Hope that helps,

Regards,
Paul.
