Actually I didn't know that about the Exports file in L4.  I shouldn't
have thought there would be much constraint on the number of
files in Level 4.  In Level 2 onwards you could get up to 219 files
in a directory so I would imagine this is replicated or even
expanded in Level 4.

I don't know much about Level 4, never really used it much although
I do have the manual somewhere - should read it really!

OK, well I sussed that one out.  $.!Server.Exports file.  Replaced $ 
with $.L4Disc (directory I created) and sure enough it only gives out 
that folder.

Only where it looks for the programs and password files ..

It doesn't seem to life raFS, however after "just rtying it" I've 
discovered that it has it's own arrangements for getting around the 
limit on number of filenames (which awServer didn't), so that's not 
going to be a problem after all.

And, joy on joys, it doesn't seem to be corrupting everything on a 
restore! Phew...
