However, ALL IS NOT LOST! For great hurrahs have been celebrated this 
morning, two folks replied off-list with www.mauritron.co.uk where the 
service manual can be had as a 242-page PDF for ?9.99.

I've got some ideas, and if this pesky work thing wasn't getting in the way 
then I'd be in the garage now trying to sort it out :P Will let everyone 
know how I get on.
