No.

I'd suggest running a BBC emulator of some sort to check
for that sort of details.

That's correct. The sound chip is on the 'slow' databus
(its write strobe and databus run through the system VIA)
but is otherwise a synchronous device.

BTW once you get round to emulating it (the SN76489), you
