Subject: Xfer problems.

I thought that Xfer didn't work on Windows XP, I always had to do Xfer
transfers on my old Windows 95 laptop when I was using it.

I think it's worth saying that there are much easier ways of transferring
files between BBC and PC than using Xfer and a serial cable. You can
read and write BBC discs using Omniflop on the PC and it shouldn't be
too difficult to cobble together a working 3.5" drive for your BBC, with
which you can also read and write 720K DOS discs with a Beeb with
1770 controller and the right software.

I haven't used Xfer for years, if ever I need a file such as a ROM image
downloaded off the Inter-Web I just save it onto a 3.5" 720K DOS
disc, put it in my Beeb with 3.5" drive and Sprow's DOSFS, save the
file onto the Econet file server, go to the station with the EPROM
programmer and pick up up off the file server there and programme it.

Simple!

Best wishes,

Ian

I've not tried xfer on vista either, but I would suggest you also try
running cmd as admistrator, in case Vista restricts access to the
serial ports.

Easiest way to do this is to create a shortcut on your desktop (right
click, new shortcut, type 'cmd' as the program name) and then run it
by right-clicking and selecting "Run as administrator".

After this, there are the various compatability modes, available in
the shortcut's properties screen..
