That's what I used to do, using spare Archimedes A3xx series floppy
cables which are the right length.  The 34-way IDC connectors fit onto
the existing motherboard pins and you can either solder the wires to the
keyboard PCB or fit a right-angle header, something like
http://rswww.com part number 531-958, to plug the other end of the cable
into.

Of course, as  you say, only every other wire in the cable is used.

A much better solution than the flimsy Acorn cables.
