The WD177x family is basically a WD1793 with internal data separator and 
write precompensation circuitry. From a software POV, they're almost 
identical, with the 1773 being 100% software-compatible with the 1793. AFAIK 
the major differences between the 177x family are stepping rates.

IOW, the differences are minor. I had always planned to add 177x 
compatibility to the 179x emulation anyway.
