Hmm, anyone know if Allen Boothroyd would have had any input to what actual 
plastic was used - or did he merely do the styling (and the actual plastic 
composition would have been down to whatever factory actually built the cases)?

If the former it's just possible that it's documented somewhere; various 
people have fragments of BBC spec stuff in their possession, and there's 
apparently still a lot buried in archives at the BBC.
