I've said it before on here, but I've generally not had much trouble - I've 
found Parrot and Wabash to be mostly[1] bad and everyone else to be mostly 
good... providing that the disks are free of physical dust and debris and the 
drive heads are kept reasonably clean.

[1] failure rates of 90% or more, actually, with disks from all sorts of 
different sources.
