Subject: Levei 3 Econet Directory Navigation

The Technomatic stopped working altogether on Friday afternoon and I
couldn't get it back no matter what I did. I thought I was in for another
14 month hiatus, and I left it running idle for several hours yesterday and
it decided to come back to life at 5.30pm, so I set the copying off again,
not expecting it to last long.

By 11.30pm I had done all the copying (twice) without any interruption on the
Technomatic. The reason it took so long, apart from periods where it was
unattended, was because the Level 3 server started playing up! Twice the
server station crashed inexplicably, once just freezing and the other time
putting garbled characters on the screen, and there were three or four
Econet errors on the work station, including No reply and Net error. It
crashed twice whilst copying the same file (a 200K zip file of the L4
server). I can't explain any of this but at least I've now got a copy of the
Technomatic on the compact flash card. I'm going to copy it back to another
Winchester to make sure it's all there and when I've done that I'll try formatting
the Technomatic to see if that helps, if not I'll have to try replacing the
controller and host adapter.

Best wishes,

Ian

Open the case and direct a desk fan at it running full whack. That'll
probably keep it up and running long enough to get the data off.
