Subject: Ceefax was the best thing BBC ever did ...

Ceefax was the entire reason I started programming the Beeb.

I wanted to reproduce the Teletext Engineering Test Page.
So I wrote a program to do it. Then added a clock. Then thought:
oo, I could write an editor so I can write any arbitary teletext
page. And to help with that I need this tool. And then this tool.
And this filing system will let me run it. And to write the filing
system I need this assembler. And to write the documentation I need
this tool. And to write the tools I need these tools. And to help
maintain them I need this archiver and this tool....

Essentially, absolutely everything I've written was down to me
desire to get a BBC to display the Teletext Engineering Page ;)
