Streuth! Adding that single additional byte gets me a working GIF! 
Albeit
two copies of the source side by side as I'm outputting a 320-px wide
image in a 640-px canvas. But, progress. Thanks.

My GIF format documentation has nothing to say about that byte.

I may have dropped a line somewhere when textifying it.
