Subject: Rebuild ADFS/HADFS free space

A few days ago I managed to trash the root directory of a rather full
ADFS drive. Oops :(

Anyway, it reminded me that I'd been meaning to put together some
filesystem repair tools for problems like this. MkMap at
http://mdfs.net/Apps/Filing/Repairing/ is an initial tool that scans
through a directory structure and builds up what would be the matching
free space map for it.

This means that you can recreate a directory structure by using a
sector editor to examine what it reports as free space blocks to find
the lost directories and files and manually put those entries back in.
Rescan to build another list of free space, rinse and repeat. When all
finished recreate the free space map from the list that MkMap reports.

This is also a reminder to mainly have just directories in the root
directory, as it makes it easier to recreate it if you're not looking
for many files to put back in there.
