I have dual-serial USB adapters based on FTDI FT2232C and these work just
fine at slow speeds. e.g.
  *FX 7 6
  *FX 8 6
  *FX 2 1
Now on my Linux server
  kermit -l /dev/ttyUSB1 -b 4800
  c
and it will happily control the Beeb.

(FWIW, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ETETZK/ is the adapter I
use; I got it to work with UPURS but it also works just fine with
built-in serial port)
