And I argue the word 'odd', since it's always been this way (5:4
pixels displayed as square). I doubt that anyone ever got worried
about that. or if they did, they probably played a bit with their
CRTC's horizontal scaling knob.

I am free, within the limits mentioned, to play around with scaling
(both horizontally and vertically), because my digitisation and
rendering parts are somewhat independent, but it might be difficult
to justify any work on that, seeing that monitors already do their
own scaling magic (with varying results).
