Subject: FW: Refurbed Master 128

Hi all

Need what is, rather shamefully, some basic help. I have 2 problems:
1) I bought a refurbed master 128 off ebay about 2011 - it's definitely not
a retroclinic one. It's fitted with several future proofs: s-video out, 3
position switch to go between (what seems to be) Master 128, BBC Model B
with 96kb RAM and something else. It also has one of those internal hard
drives. Problem 1 - I can't find Citadel on the internal HD and with a
huge tree structure with things named like Games-Disk1.AcornA-1 it could be
anywhere. Anyone got the same image (I suspect they're common to most
refurbed Beebs) and know where Citadel is? Is there a Find program /
command?

2) Problem 2: I've found one (there may be umpteen others) copies of Elite
on the disk it came with but I can't get it to work in whatever of the 3
positions the switch is in. It either crashes - just hangs before the
"Load new commander?" or I get a "This will only work on a BBC Micro"
message. If I knew which version of Elite I was loading and which
configuration I was in, I might get somewhere. I either need to match my
configuration to the version of Elite I'm loading, or find the right version
of Elite for my configuration. The same applies to other games - e.g. I
couldn't get chess to work properly.

I suspect the disk image I have (on which as I say is a massive tree of
software) contains the right version of Elite but I don't remember the ADFS
command (if there is one) to find something in a tree.

Sorry if this is a bit rambling. Back in the day, I was (believe it or
not) pretty hot on these machines but that was 30 years ago and not putting
in regular hours on this lovely machine means I forget (and stupidly didn't
write down).

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Rob
