In addition (nearly forgot this), the catalogue is (and should
stay !) ordered. It is first ordered by type. (types 1 before
types 2, before types 3). Then, for type 1, by subtype (filing
system number, lower numbers first), or, for type 2 and 3, by
name (in alphabetic order, 'A' before 'B', etc. by ASCII
comparison, characters 33 to 126 allowed, others disallowed).

This means there's quite an effort involved in updating the
catalogue, but *MMCLIST will always give a neatly ordered
list (without having to resort to hugely complex, memory
hungry, and slow sorting (1000 discs, anyone ?) every time).
