I think that Acorn's general feeling is that they wish to move people to
the newer machines that they are producing.  To this end they've spent
a great deal of time and effort maintaining some semblance of backwards
compatibility with the older machines.

To have people (effectively) supporting emulations of the older hardware
on just about any machine you might care to name is therefore not really
seen to be in Acorn's interests, because it will mean that they won't
be buying new software and hardware from Acorn.
