Subject: 8271 emulation

At last - thesis finished (almost) and ready to start work again on the Beeb.
Firstly, the good news - in conversation with Eddie last week, I discovered
that he'd written a 8271/DFS emulator for his Dragon years ago. Now this
will be fairly useless to most of the people on the list, but anyone doing
680x0 stuff (is this just me & Chris Lam) is welcome to a copy as & when Ed
hauls his Dragon out from under his dad's bed and gets me the code. It's all
6809 so should be a very simple port and it emulates the DFS and 8271 down to
the sector read level. He never got round to implementing sector writes (never
needed 'em, he claims) but it shouldn't be too hard (touches wood.) So, if all
goes well, by the end of the month (assuming Wolfenstein doesn't get in the
way), I should have 6502 (currently reasonably stable), 8271, a selection of
gnarly 6522/6845 cludges to hold the I/O side up and an ftp-available alpha
version.
                               Cheers

PS - Wolf's looking superb - just needs the 'guards hit you' code finishing
off, plus status bar (ie BJ getting bloodier and bloodier) and menus. Oh, and
music and about 100+ hours of playtesting. What a bore :) Check out the Acorn
mags over the next couple of months or come to the Acorn World show to see
just what can be done on an Acorn machine (now - anybody fancy an Archimedes
emulator?)
