Subject: FDCs and DFSs
Hi guys,
I have been offered a 1984 BBC with an Acorn 1770 FDC and DFS 2.23.
Before I decide to buy or not I'd like to know a couple of things:
- is the 1770 fully (upward) compatible with the 8271; if not,
what are the differences? (in particular: can it read my 8271-
formatted 80-track ds sd disks)
- what does the 1770 offer over the 8271? (in particular: does it
allow you to format/write disks in dd format, which might
enhance changes of my PC reading them using FDC or anadisk)?
- are there any major differences between DFS 2.23 and DFS 2.0
(apart from the fact that DFS 2.0 works with the 8271 and
DFS 2.23 works with the 1770)?
- is it possible to run ADFS (in sideways RAM) on a BBC in conjunction
with the 1770?
Thanxalot in advance,
Mark.
