Subject: OS calls for directories?

There appears to be something weird with OS calls in connection
with directories:

- There is an OS call (OSGBPB with A=6 or 7 if I'm right) to
  retreive the file names in the current directory. However,
  there doesn't appear to be an OS call to get the directory
  names in the current directory. 
- There appears to be no OS call to switch to a directory
  (*DIR command).

Is there anyone who knows how to get the directory names and
how to switch to a directory using legal OS calls?
