Subject: Hardware problems

I'm still trying to get this old Beeb I bought cheaply a while ago working
properly. Problem is that after starting a game (problem only seems to
occur during games!) for example Cylon Attack, after a few seconds into
the game, the images of the attacking aliens start spreading all over the
screen, as if they are being redrawn without the old image being erased.
After a minute or so, machine locks up solid.

I've got hold of a three old motherboards - two issue 4's and an issue 3 -
mine is issue 7. I'm hoping that many of the components are common, so I
can maybe isolate the faulty part and swap it. One of the issue 4's
actually looks as though it might be complete, so I could try a board
swap.

Any suggestions as to a sensible order to go about swapping components?

Also, the disc drive cable has the first three wires cut (from the end
with the blue stripe). Should it be like this? Seems to work OK.

Finally, I don't appear to have any manuals at all. Does anyone have any
spare ones they'd be willing to part with?

Thanks for your time,
Steve
