Yes, I swapped it for the only one I could find on my spare boards which
was socketed (most of them seem to be soldered), but that failed in
different ways, so I assume the replacement was faulty.  I haven't been
able to obtain an LS245 locally, but I have got hold of some freezer spray
to try while I get one mail order.  The only trouble is that my 'new'
problem is getting in the way somewhat :-(
