Subject: Changing file attributes
Well I'm rolling or at least I think I am. I am currently in the process
of transferring several hundred programs, mostly BASIC into Wouter's
archive format, for uploading to nvg.unit.no. Then I'll move onto the
more elaborate software! How did I achieve this - well the file BEEBDOS
in the nvg utils archive isn't mentioned much but it is a fantastic
programme. I fitted an old 51/4 floppy off an atari to my 486, and the
beebdos programme no allows me to read, format, copy, anything 40 track,
double density floppies using the Solidisk 1770 filing sytstem!!! Several
other filing systems are catered for as well. This seems to be far
simpler, than kermit, or anything else.
I have a couple of questions though. Firstly and simply how do you change
the attributes of a file on a bbc disk - i.e. load exec addresses?
Secondly, how do you copy a file that is stored on tape, if part of the
file is assembly. For instance, many tape program use CH."". So assuming
I load in the file, alter the command to CH."NXTFILE", how do I save this
file again, if there is assembly present? If this is not possible, then
how does anyone else crack a tape programme that uses this ch."" command.
I never figured this out when I was a full time BBC user and I've
forgotten most of what I knew now.
It would be good to have games like Trafalgar on disk.
Well, thereyou go - if anyone can help....
And if anyone is interested in copies of Disk User disks, programmes from
Micro User and the Acorn User and various other BASIC crappy programmes
then check the archive at nvg - I'll be uploading them next week, and I
guess they will appear somewhere if the gods that be deem them
sufficiently worthy of archive space. There's better to follow if I can
work out this tape stuff.
