Subject: Sideways RAMs
Hi again,
Another problem:
I was under the impression that the sideways RAM for the BBC were
Static RAM chips plugged into one of the ROM sockets.....
However, when I tried this with two Static RAMs, the machine was not
able to "see" the chip; i.e. when I looked at that area of memory, it
looked like there was no chip plugged in there - just read constantly
changing values from it....
I tried the following chips: the 6264P-15 (8k static RAM chip, 150ns
access time)
and the 58256 (32k static RAM chip, 120ns access time; I assumed the
BBC would only use the lower 16k of this)
Am I forgetting something, or were sideways RAMs not, in fact, static
RAMs (if not, what chip number were they? In fact, what chip number
definitely works ion the BBC? In case these two are slightly
incompatable)
This is urgent: I *need* to play Exile with the nice sound & bigger
screen :)
I really should collect information like this and put it in an FAQ...
