Try pulling the SA5050 teletext IC from your dead beeb, and put it
in the semi-working one.
The SA5050 is the chip responsible for generating the mode 7 screen, so
would seem most likely to be at fault.
Depending on the issue of the beebs, you may find that this chip is
soldered in, in which case changing it may be more of a problem.
