It is a hardware device that allows you to freeze any program (game) and
save the entire configuration on disk, so that you can restart the program
any time from right the same spot.
The device has two uses: making backup copies of protected programs, and
"cheating" in games (you save the position, get killed and restart from the
same place).
Replay is not perfect, since some of the video controller registers are write
only, so the device cannot read exact display mode. Therefore, it is possible
for some games to wake up in a strange display mode - that has to be corrected
manually, although Replay "knows" the necessary configuration for most of the
well known games.
A very nice device.
